Kindergarten is mandatory for all North Carolina public school students.

Kindergarten Registration Information:

  • Child MUST be five years old on or before October 16.
  • Original birth certificate MUST be presented at registration
  • MUST have an up-to-date immunization (shot) record
  • Present child's original Social Security Card (if available)
  • MUST have current proof of Residence (original electric bill, phone bill, etc.) Only original bills will be accepted; no copies.

For more Kindergarten registration information, parents may call the elementary school their child will be attending. If parents are unsure what school their child will be attending, they may call the ECPPS CommunitySchool Relations Office at 337-6612.

A Pre-Kindergarten Program, funded by Title I federal funds, is offered to select four-year-olds based on developmental screening. It is designed to give the student skills he or she will need in Kindergarten. FMI call the Title I Parent Center at 338-1194.

Graduation Requirements:

  • NC Computer Skills Test. First given in the 8th grade, this is a yearly test of computer skills which must be passed before graduation.
  • 8th Grade End-of-Grade Test. Tests competency in reading and math. If not passed in 8th grade, must be passed before graduation.
  • Graduation Project. All students are required to complete the Graduation Project during their senior year. Includes a portfolio, 20 hours of public/community service, and a formal oral presentation.

Trigg Community School offers an alternative educational program for students in 6th thru 12th grades who have difficulty finding success in a more traditional school setting. FMI call the school at 335-1765

An AIG Program is in place for academically or intellectually gifted students. FMI call the IAG coordinator, Janet Swain, at 335-2981.
Exceptional Childrens' Services are available to students who are seeing or hearing impaired, autistic, developmentally delayed, or handicapped in other ways. 335-2981.

After School Care & Summer Camp Program:
Parents who work outside the home will be glad to know the district offers an After School Enrichment Program (ASEP). Offered at its seven elementary campuses, the reasonably-priced program provides students with educational opportunities, homework assistance, and supervised free time. The Summer Camp Program runs for six weeks in June and July. Summer Camp provides a well-structured learning environment combining fun and exploration.
